Bogdan // Main Driver
I started driving around 13, sneaking down to the garage to drive my parents VW Passat VR6. It was a large garage, so I got up to a good 40 mph indoors before having to hit the brakes, it's a miracle that I never got outed by other people in the apartment buildings... or crashed into the cement pillars.
Around 18 I found autocross, back then, I had an Acura CL 2.2 5spd. It was not the most competitive car, and had a very small power steering fluid reservoir. During a slalom, the fluid would slosh away...starving the pump... and making you lose power steering without any warning. It made for some very exciting moments on course. I also took the car to the "favored," street racing hot-spot called Metro. It was in the heyday of street racing around the DC area, and before fast and furious came out.
Eventually, I settled down a little, and into a BMW 328is 5spd. With this car, I reached a new step car/driving addiction. I hooked up with the local BMW club and started to autocross with them, and realized that I didn't know as much as I thought... since there were retirees turning faster times than I was. Over time, however, I picked up some knowledge and skill along the way. For a couple of years, I even helped to chair the Autocross program, running the events, picking up cones, and reassembling the tents in the pouring down monsoons we were blessed with repeatedly. I also was asked to volunteer and instruct in a wonderful program called Street Survival, which teaches high school students the basics of car control and accidence avoidance that drivers education never touches on. All of these programs, and throw in some track days... and I still can't get enough of car related activities."
